POINTS
Provenance & cultural significance
How clearly the maker, making region, technique, and cultural context can be traced. A famous name alone is not enough.
THE TSUGISHIRUBE STANDARD
Every product is assessed across five published criteria. Each product page shows the points behind its total, the source review date, and the practical conditions that may change.
ONE HUNDRED POINTS · FIVE QUESTIONS
Exceptional craft is difficult to choose from abroad when its exact image, price, source, or delivery terms are unclear. Equally, ease of purchase cannot substitute for cultural value.
THE FIVE CRITERIA
POINTS
How clearly the maker, making region, technique, and cultural context can be traced. A famous name alone is not enough.
POINTS
Material quality, mastery of technique, finish, functional intelligence, and the meaningful presence of handwork.
POINTS
Durability, repairability, usefulness over time, and the potential to deepen through use. Consumables are judged by the ritual and memory they create.
POINTS
Whether the piece carries a clear reason to give, suits a meaningful occasion, and remains memorable beyond its price.
POINTS
Match between the exact image and product, price clarity, retailer credibility, and the visibility of stock and delivery terms.
HOW TO READ THE SCORE
Price tier is shown separately. The score is an editorial measure of how strongly a piece answers the TSUGISHIRUBE standard.
Collector-level authorship, cultural depth, and lasting presence.
A particularly strong expression of place, craft, and gift meaning.
A clear cultural point of view with one or two practical trade-offs.
Included for a specific ritual, occasion, or story despite lower permanence or access.
FROM SOURCE TO SCORE
We start from an individual product page, not a generic maker or category image.
Region, maker, material, technique, and intended use are checked against available sources.
Points are recorded criterion by criterion. The displayed total is their sum, not an unexplained rating.
Price, stock, shipping, and source links are time-sensitive and carry a visible review date.
EDITORIAL INDEPENDENCE
Affiliate availability, commission rate, and advertising are not scoring criteria. Affiliate-ready products are assessed by the same cultural and product-information standards.
